American Bones | Paintings

SEE EVENT DETAILS
West Coast premier exhibit of American Bones comes home to San Francisco. The weekend-long show of paintings and photographs by San Francisco artist, Zannah Noe, covers her 5-month road trip around America in 2012. The work removes the exhausted patriotism of Americana and seeks to celebrate the working and creative classes, reveal the irony in our nostalgia and depict regional architecture and landscapes. This is the first glimpse of a body of work that will be developed over the next two years. Meet the artist, at the opening reception and there will be an artist talk on Saturday 2pm.

An abstract expressionist painter, Noe’s paintings are illustrative collages atop lush and colorful backgrounds. She layers monuments and iconic regional American imagery. These cultural images stack up to create a painting both complex and seductive. In accompaniment to her paintings, Noe’s photography will also be on exhibit-- these photos showcase the spectacular of the everyday. Through her paintings and photographs Zannah Noe observes, deconstructs, and then turns the canvas back towards the viewer, revealing our raw infrastructure.
