Anyone even mildly in tune with pop-culture in 2001 will remember Alien Ant Farm's alt-rock rendition of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal." It was huge then, and remains a hit to this day. The video currently has over 42 million views on YouTube. The guys came off a bit as nu-metal jokesters, only because they emerged at the same time as the nu-metal boom, and because they produced quirky, goofball videos. But their music was never really very humorous, and their sound resembled power-pop more than nu-metal. They just released their first album in eight years with their (mostly) original 1995 lineup.
