Alexis Bittar Trunk Show

at Annieglass (see times)
Award-winning New York jewelry designer Alexis Bittar will hold a special trunk show event at Annieglass on Santana Row on Saturday, May 2, from 10:00am to 9:00pm. Annieglass on Santana Row opened April 17, and features the California-based company’s handcrafted luxury glassware, as well as an exquisite selection of jewelry and gifts for the home. The event will display Alexis Bittar’s latest collections of Lucite, semi-precious stone and metal jewelry, and hold a raffle for attendee’s chance to win a surprise piece of Annieglass.

Since 1996, Annieglass and Alexis Bittar have enjoyed a mutual admiration. Driven by their insatiable thirst for innovation and craftsmanship, each has elevated the artisanally handmade into the luxury marketplace. In 1983, Annieglass designer and founder Annie Morhauser pioneered a handmade glass technique called “slumping,” which has earned international acclaim; and in 1992 Bittar took his crafted jewelry designs from the streets of New York to its luxury retailers, propelling his company into an accessories empire.

Annie introduced Bittar’s Lucite line to her glass-loving followers in her first tiny store in Santa Cruz in 1996. Alexis has collected Annieglass ever since, and Annie has been wearing Bittar pieces almost exclusively while introducing Annieglass to new customers nationwide. Several of her favorites are personal gifts from Alexis. "His Lucite pieces never fail to intrigue me or anyone who is fascinated by glass,” says Annie. “I get so many compliments on his jewelry when I wear it. It’s wonderful to see his success, we feel very proud of him and how far he has gone."

Since his illustrious career began in 1992, Alexis Bittar has won the 2004 Accessories Council of Excellence Rising Star award, the CFDA Accessory Designer of the Year award in 2010, and the 2014 Ace Award for Brand of the Year. Bittar’s creations are in department stores, luxury retailers, and the company’s seven boutiques.

Annieglass is a leader in handcrafted luxury glassware. Made sustainably in their Watsonville studio on California’s central coast, Annieglass captures the beauty of imperfection through a special “slumping” process pioneered by Annie. Combining artisanal techniques with new technology, Annie’s imaginative designs inspired by nature are cut into glass, which is set into kilns at high temperatures; the glass then drapes over molds, stretching into individual patterns and rendering each piece of Annieglass a unique work of art. Annieglass’ handcrafted process ensures dishwasher safety, durability and a lifetime of use from the finished luxury glassware. Each piece is hand-engraved with a studio signature for authenticity.

Annieglass is in the finest stores, a favorite on bridal registries, collected by celebrities, and used by chefs as well as home cooks worldwide. In 2006 Annieglass became part of the Smithsonian Museum of American Art’s permanent collection, and most recently won the Green Award for Eco-Sustainability at the 26th Annual ARTS Awards.

The Annieglass store is known for its jewelry selection, handpicked by Annie, and many find the Alexis Bittar selection decidedly different from other stores carrying the brand. "I love it when a customer says they have seen Alexis Bittar jewelry in a department store, then complain they didn’t see the same selection as we have,” says Annieglass jewelry manager Danette Lawrence. “We just say maybe that's because Annie didn’t handpick it for you."
