Program: Riley: Mythic Birds Waltz; Harrison: selections from String Quartet Set (Variations on Walter von der Vogelweide’s “Nu alrêst leb’ich mir werde,” Rondeaux and Estampie); Festinger: String Quartet No. 1; and Beethoven: String Quartet in F major, Op. 59, No. 1, “Razumovsky”

The Alexander String Quartet, celebrating its 20th year as quartet-in-residence at SF State, has performed in the music capitals of five continents, securing its standing among the world’s premier ensembles. Widely admired for its interpretations of Beethoven, Mozart and Shostakovich, the quartet has also established itself as an important advocate of new music through more than 25 commissions and numerous premiere performances.
