Kids can visit Alcatraz for free on the upcoming Junior Ranger days: Saturday March 1st and Sunday March 2nd! For this weekend only there will be special kid-centric programs, a scavenger hunt, and other opportunities designed for Alcatraz visitors from ages 5 through 11.
Special walking tours will cover what it was like to be a kid living on Alcatraz during the penitentiary years, the story of why Alcatraz was important during the California gold rush, and a behind-the-scenes tour of secret Alcatraz. Hands-on natural history programs will include a chance to look at the sun up-close in a Solar Astronomy demonstration, and close encounters with crabs caught beside the Alcatraz fishing pier.
Free tickets are available for children between 5-11 years old, maximum 4 per family or group. Children must be accompanied by at least one (paid ticket-holding) adult age 18 or older. Free tickets must be requested 3 days in advance by calling the Alcatraz Cruises Group Services Department at (415) 438-8361.
