In celebration of our 7th year in existence, we will showcase traditional and inspired attires, music, and dances of the Northern Philippine Highlands (Kalinga and Ga'dang), Mindanao (T'boli and Bagobo-Tagabawa) and Maranao. Dances will also be representing Spanish influence.
Parangal has partnered with recognized traditional cultural bearers in the Philippines and in the United States to premiere their respective group's legends on proscenium stage. These partners include Jenny Bawer Young (Kalinga; Bay Area, California) and cultural masters of National Commission for Culture and the Arts - Amparo Mabanag and Margareth Balansi from the Ga'dang community of Paracelis, Mountain Province, and Sonia D. Mangune and Arlyne D. Salazar from Bagobo-Tagabawa of Toril, Davao City. Resources for Alamat also include Leyte Dance Theater, Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group, and Silin Awed.
