Description

Using Artemis as inspiration for the females figures in this series of work, I want to explore the erotic overtones of hunting and courtship in relationship with the black wolf/dog in the paintings. How Artemis becomes both predator that would destroy as well as give sustenance. She gives life as well as sacrifices. She is both a virgin and the goddess of childbirth. She protects young girls as they grow to maturity, marriage and motherhood. She is the fierce protector of both animals and hunters. Her sexuality is regarded with wonder and anxiety.
