SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Christ Church (see times)
The Gough Duo was formed in 1997 and is the only regular violin and organ duo to tour internationally. They have appeared in various European festivals and toured the United States many times from New York to Dallas and Florida to Alaska. Recently they have performed to packed audiences in the major concert halls of Moscow and Hong Kong. In the United Kingdom, the Duo enjoys the challenge of performing in a variety of venues, from soirées using house or box organs to St. Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey.

The Duo has a number of commercial recordings available, including the works for violin, soprano and organ by Karg-Elert (Lammas Records) and the violin and organ suites of Joseph Rheinberger. They are committed to promoting new music and have had many pieces composed for them, including a Sonata by American composer Carson P. Cooman which has been recorded for Naxos Records. During 2013 they commissioned a new work from British composer, David Bednall. The piece is a companion to The lark ascending and received its world première in the church of La Madeleine, Paris, followed by a UK première in the magnificent acoustic of St Paul’s Cathedral, London.

Rachel Gough attended the University of East Anglia, where she won performance scholarships enabling her to study with Hugh Maguire, and graduated with First Class Honours in Music. With a scholarship from The Wall Trust she entered the Royal College of Music, studying with Frances Mason. She graduated with an MMus Degree in Advanced Performance. Rachel was for many years a violin tutor at Wells Cathedral Specialist Music School, and performs and records regularly as a chamber and solo violinist. She is Principal Second Violin of the Bristol Ensemble, and second violin in the Bristol Ensemble Quartet. Rachel plays on a violin made by Joseph Klox in Mittenwald, dated 1791.

Rupert Gough leads a busy career as both a conductor and organ recitalist combining his role as Director of Choral Music and College Organist at Royal Holloway, University of London, with numerous concert engagements. The Choir of Royal Holloway is now regarded as one of the finest mixed-voice collegiate choirs in the UK and records with the prestigious Hyperion label. Rupert was awarded Third Prize at the 2001 St. Alban's International Organ competition and during 2006 was featured in the Hong Kong Arts Festival with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. Prior to this Rupert, was Assistant Organist at Wells Cathedral for 11 years where his organ accompaniments were described as “exemplary” by the BBC Music Magazine.
