Retired San Francisco teacher and now author, Irving Rothstein, will discuss his recent memoir,It Couldn’t Have Been the Pay: A Life of Teaching and Learning in Public Schools. Mr. Rothstein began his teaching career in 1963 and taught mainly in the San Francisco Public School District until he retired in 2002. His writing has appeared inTai Chi Magazine and the anthology Why I Teach. He is a lifelong member of the California Federation of Teachers. He still teaches Tai Chi and is an active member in San Francisco’s Jewish Community. Rothstein’s memoir collects his stories from more than 30 years of teaching, mostly in San Francisco. Rothstein will share some of the storytelling and humor that he used in the classroom to teach and to help students from all backgrounds learn about themselves and each other.
