As part of the adventurous Jazz Beyond series at the Pagoda Lounge, A Million Billion Dying Suns go way beyond jazz. In fact, they are more of an ambient psychedelic folk band, evincing a kind of raw power not typically heard in indie bands these days. Actually, they aren't technically a band at all. Nate Mercereau is their only official member; the rest of the group consists of whatever friends and players he can round up for whatever show he's playing. As strange and trance-inducing as A Million Billion Dying Suns are, Mercereau's main project, the Park, is an equally experimental but very different San Francisco band. They are more groove-oriented with emphasis on jazz, soul, hip-hop and world beat, but take it to strange new places.
