The 200-voice San Francisco Choral Society presents Johannes Brahms’ "A German Requiem" and "Nänie" Friday, August 22 at 8:00pm and Saturday, August 23 at 8:00pm at San Francisco’s Davies Symphony Hall. Maestro Robert Geary will conduct renowned soprano Marnie Breckenridge and baritone Eugene Brancoveanu and the California Chamber Symphony in concerts that will leave your soul comforted and uplifted.
"A German Requiem": deeply moving, profound and powerful. One of the great monuments of choral music, this requiem is beloved for its personal, humanistic approach to loss, sorrow and redemption. Upon its completion, Johannes Brahms said, “Now I am consoled. I have surmounts obstacle that I thought I could never overcome and I feel like an eagle, soaring ever higher.” The seldom-performed "Nänie" is a meditation on the temporary nature of life, and is perfectly paired with the tender German Requiem.
“You can count on hearing some high-quality choral music, as Artistic Director Robert Geary and his Society have certainly proven over the years.” San Francisco Classical Voice
