A Declaration of Color

SEE EVENT DETAILS
1AM is pleased to present, “A Declaration of Color,” opening July 3rd, from 6:30 – 9:30 PM. The show will feature mixed media works on canvas and limited edition prints by Sen2. The exhibition will include two collections showcasing his signature abstract graffiti style with an Americana vibe. The first collection includes grayscale mixed-media pieces and limited edition prints, while the second features works in a full range of bright colors.
“A Declaration of Color” explores the meaning and power of color as a means of visual communication. Sen2’s grayscale and full-color collections reflect his own graffiti and letter style developed throughout his career and references his Puerto Rican heritage along with his experience as a prominent graffiti artist in New York City. His grayscale paintings and prints include classic Americana imagery woven into an array of design patterns and abstract graffiti elements. His full-color compositions reflect similar abstracted graffiti and lettering styles balanced with gestural splashes of color.
Born in 1969, Sandro Figueroa Garcia a.k.a. Sen2 grew up in Cateras, a rough neighborhood of Santurce, Puerto Rico. He got hooked on graffiti style and culture during a visit to NYC in the 80s when graffiti was taking the streets by storm. He brought his newfound passion back to Puerto Rico drawing inspiration from black-and-white graffiti magazines. He is one of the founders of Mad Crew, which had much success in Puerto Rico, and went on to join Tats Cru in New York, one of the most prominent graffiti crews on the scene. Sen2 has created artwork for music videos, working with high profile recording artists such as Jennifer Lopez, Nas, and Missy Elliot and has also applied his design skill to the fashion world contributing designs for companies such as Tribal Gear, Miss Sixty, and Wildstyle Technicians. He also has his own brands, The Sen2 Collection and the DirtyWaters Trade Company, which fulfilled a lifelong dream of representing Puerto Rico in the fashion industry.
