French, Italian. Cozy 71 St. Peter restaurant has a worn charm that draws you in right away. Steamed mussels and clams, roasted garlic and bacon vinaigrette, spinach salad with goat cheese and pears, and pan-seared foie gras all make great appetizers. Wild mushroom risotto, dry-spiced grilled lamb sirloin and roasted duck are all great, too.

This cozy bistro just keeps on providing well-made New American recipes that speak with a slight Mediterranean French accent. The lovely little dining room, wedged into its old brick storefront on San Pedro Square, makes for a romantic oasis in the midst of the hum and throb of downtown San Jose.
