THE NEW PARKWAY TURNS THREE, OFFERS $3 MOVIES TO CELEBRATE
DECEMBER 22, OAKLAND – The New Parkway Theater, Oakland’s community-centered cinema and pub, will celebrate its third birthday on December 22nd by offering $3 movies all day long. The theater will open at noon and raffle off a New Parkway annual pass in every film that day, the winners of which will receive free entry to nearly all screenings in 2016.
The New Parkway celebrated healthy growth and changes during its second year of operations, including shifting its menu to higher-end locally-sourced cuisine, and founder and co-owner J Moses Ceaser passing the torch of General Manager to long-time Oakland resident Diane Tadano.
“Our staff -- from line cooks to ticket takers to administrators -- fill this place with creativity, energy, and community values,” said Tadano. “I’m looking forward to helping the New Parkway continue to grow as a space for Oakland residents to be entertained and engaged in a community space.”
The original Parkway Speakeasy Theater abruptly shut down in 2009 after a 12-year-run, and Ceaser found himself among many East Bay residents who sorely missed the theater -- just not as a movie-watching venue, but as a community space. Cesar led community and investor efforts to fundraise, build, and open the New Parkway in December 2012.
The New Parkway’s second birthday celebration in 2014 had the theater jam-packed with loyal and new patrons alike, and the theater expects an even stronger turnout for its third birthday. Films and showtimes for December 22nd will be announced the week prior at https://www.thenewparkway.com.
