Celebrating Day of the Dead at Bay Area Restaurants

Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican holiday which focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember those who have died. And several restaurants in the Bay Area are offering special menus, drinks and dishes for the occasion.

Rosa Mexicano will be offering a special menu of autumn-inspired dishes this entire week, including many served on the Mexican holiday. Included on the menu are a Fall Guacamole featuring roasted pears, apples and toasted almonds, Sea Scallops with Pumpkin Seed Pipian, Churros en Bolsa (churros served with three different dipping sauces) and El Diablo Ahumado (a spicy cocktail made with Ancho chile-infused Herradura reposado, blood orange, apricot brandy and cinnamon). The special menu items will be available through Sunday, November 3rd. Rosa Mexicano is located at 30 Mission Street in San Francisco .

Copita Tequileria y Comida in Sausalito will be offering a special prix fixe menu from November 1-3 for the Mexican holiday. The menu will feature Cuitlacoche Corn Truffle and Cypress Grove Cheese Quesadillas (served with a spicy tomatillo salsa), 3 Different Pozoles (vegetarian, Mary’s farm chicken and mixed seafood) and Mexican Hot Chocolate. The items can also be ordered a la carte, and Copita’s full menu will also be available. Copita has also created a special cocktail for the celebration, the Espiritu, made with Tequila blanco, St. Germain elderflower liqueur, Campari and fresh guava juice for $10. The menu will be available all day. Copita Tequileria y Comida is located at 739 Bridgeway in Sausalito .

Cosecha in Oakland is holding its third annual Day of the Dead celebration dinner on Saturday, November 2. The restaurant will be having face painting and cocktails at 5:00pm and dinner hours will be from 6:00-9:30. Among the featured dishes will be Mole Poblano, but there will be plenty of other options, including vegetarian dishes. The restaurant will also be open for brunch from 10:30-3:30. Cosecha is located at 907 Washington Street in Oakland .

Tres is hosting a cocktail competition on Sunday, November 3 as the bar team competes to create the best fall cocktail featuring Tequila Espolon. Guests are encouraged to wear their best Dia de los Muertos outfits and help decide which cocktail best represents fall. The competition begins at 5:00pm and there will also be free tastings of Tequila Espolon and select competing cocktails. Chef Juan Martinez will also be offering a special prix fixe menu all weekend, featuring many family holiday recipes. Tres is located at 130 Townsend Street in San Francisco .

There will be a number of festivals throughout the Bay Area as well this weekend.
