Team Behind Big Has a New Name and Space – Odd Job in Mid-Market

Well that was fast!! Just as the bar Big closed its doors last week with an all day party at its location on Post Street, the team has announced plans for its new location, this time in Mid-Market on Mission Street in the old Shine Lounge space.

We talked to Big owner Jordan Langer, who described the new space as “if Big and Public Works had a baby.” Langer, who lives in the neighborhood, said he and his partners, Jeff Whitmore of Public Works and Pete Glikshtern of Jones, felt the perfect name for the project was Odd Job.

“It’s a combination of things. It is all three of our jobs, to manage bars and nightclubs. And being in that neighborhood everyday, I see so many new buildings coming up, new projects on the horizon,” Langer said. “New jobs in the area, new construction and an entirely new neighborhood that is being developed.”

Although plans are still in the works, Langer said he hopes the space will be open by the first week of August. With a much bigger space, the concept is changing as well. “We couldn’t replicate Big because there was no way to do it justice in my opinion. So we’re going to have a lot going on at Odd Job. We’ll have DJ’s in 2-3 times a month. And the cocktail program will be an expansion of what we were doing at Big,” Langer said. “We’re bringing in a soft serve machine and coffee machine. And there will be a lot of the same great cocktails that our guests were used to.”

Langer said to give it a little of the Big feel, he has brought in some of the paneling and artwork from the bar to use in the new space.

More news as the space moves closer to opening in the coming weeks.

Odd Job will be located at 1337 Mission Street, between 9th and 10th streets. Expect an August opening.
