Lunch in San Francisco’s Financial District can be a hit-or-miss proposition; there are some really good spots, but others that charge far too much for what they are offering. Here’s a few standouts that won’t break the bank.

Cotogna – The sibling to neighboring Quince, Cotogna offers full-service lunch,  but also a couple of great deals. The restaurant offers a three-course special for lunch (starter, entree and dessert) for $24. Another winner – the daily brown bag lunch takeout special. Each day, Cotogna features a different sandwich that can be ordered to go, along with a small salad and cookie for $12. Cotogna is located at 490 Pacific Avenue.

Harrow – This comforting restaurant on Kearney Street is amongst a large group of lunch haunts in that area. What makes Harrow standout? It’s just a good, quality restaurant serving sustainable products from local farms, all at reasonable prices. The menu is compromised of mainly sandwiches and salads and the portions are quite filling. Really just a good solid option for lunch . Harrow is located at 357 Kearney Street.

Muracci’s Japanese Curry and Grill – My go-to spot for lunch in the Financial District. Muracci’s is almost always packed during the lunch hour (quick tip: you can call in your order and pick it up without the wait). The menu features a wide variety of Japanese comfort food – curry dishes, donburi, noodle soups and sushi. Almost everything is under $10 and really tasty and filling, especially the curry plates. There are very few seats inside and because of the normal lines, it can get pretty packed. Muracci’s is located at 307 Kearney Street.

The Sentinel – Even as more and more sandwich shops pop-up around San Francisco, there’s not many that can beat The Sentinel. There are always daily specials on the list of 8-10 sandwiches, each of which is truly unique and delicious. All the sandwiches (other than the special) are normally priced under $10. If not the best sandwich shop in San Francisco, it’s definitely in the Top 10. The Sentinel is located at 37 New Montgomery Street.

Latkes, creme fraiche, apple sauce

Shorty Goldstein’s – We discussed this new Jewish deli in the heart of downtown San Francisco earlier this year. While the prices may be a bit more expensive than the other locations on this list, the thing that stands out at Shorty Goldstein’s is the care that goes into each dish – from the potato knish, which holds special meaning for owner Michael Siegel, to the smoked pastrami sandwich,. It’s all about comfort food and in his own words “a farm-to-table Jewish deli.” Despite the size, there are plenty of seats inside as well. Shorty Goldstein’s is located at 126 Sutter Street.
