Liaison Artists Present a Life and Death Showcase at Mezzanine

Label showcases are something we can’t get enough of in SF, and this weekend we’ve got an extra special treat in store from our local booking agents at Liaision Artists. They’ve rounded up the Life and Death crew for a party this Friday, February 1 at Mezzanine featuring Tale of Us, Thugfucker, PillowTalk, DJ Tennis, and special guest, Jimmy Edgar.

From New York to Berlin to Rome, the founders of the Life and Death imprint—Thugfucker, Tale of Us, and DJ Tennis—have made headway in the last couple years based on a mutual interest in curating a tasteful balance between pop and dance music. The short, but solid, discography blurs these boundaries with releases from pop-inspired production partners, including My Favorite Robot, WhoMadeWho, dOP, and PillowTalk. Their latest recruits are a Berlin-based duo named The/Das, who came out with their collaborative Fresh Water EP with Tale of Us last fall.

DJ Tennis and Thugfucker have had their fair share of opportunities to nestle their way into the hearts of SF house heads with a handful of well-received gigs at Monarch, Public Works, and the ever-glowing Sunset parties. Although Matteo Milleri played Public Works last year, this will be the debut appearance of Tale of Us as a duo. Carmine Conte and Matteo didn’t even step out as a production duo until 2010 and currently only have one other EP to their name. Dark Song, which was released on Ryan Crosson and Seth Troxler’s popular Visionquest imprint, launched the duo’s busy global DJ career.

In time—hopefully later this year—Tale of Us will release a full length, but until then they are riding on the success of their remixes, including their take on Thugfucker’s “Disco Gnome,” and have a studio mix slated for release in March for Renaissance’s The Mix Collection series. The tracklist shows a varied selection of house and techno, featuring artists such as Four Tet, Daniel Avery, Carl Craig, and Tin Man.

Tale of Us, Thugfucker, PillowTalk, DJ Tennis, and Jimmy Edgar play Life and Death SF at Mezzanine Friday, February 1, with an opening set from Adnan Sharif. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased here.
