Bands make her dance, but really, DJs make them really dance. It’s that time of the year again where some of the Bay Area’s finest DJs come together to show-off their ability to mix, scratch, and please the masses.
The competition kind of goes like this. Each DJ gets one 15 minute performance where they have to play a minimum of three genres. Anything goes – from house anthems to old school hip-hop to Top 40 remixes. Whoever wins advances to the next step on the road to the world finals. Judging from previous year’s performances, “anything goes” is really the theme of the night, so don’t be surprised if you get a bunch of airhorns and glitter cannons thrown in your face throughout the night.
Chosen by an anonymous panel, the participating DJs will be D-Sharp, J Espinosa, Dstrukt, Richie Panic, Mei-Lwun. If you’ve ever partied in the Bay Area, it’s almost certain you have danced, drank, or blacked out to at least one of these DJs. Hosting the event will be Franco Finn, whom most of us known for running around the Warriors stadium involving the crowd in various games which may or may not involve a free t-shirt. Opening will be local band Hot Pocket.
Here’s last year’s winning set from Seattle and eventual worldwide winner Four Color Zack.
The event takes place Thursday, January 24th at The Independent. The event starts at 8pm. The event is 21+. Get your tickets here.
P.S. If you’ve ever wanted to meet your favorite Bay Area DJ, I highly suggest attending this event. There will be lots of DJs in attendance.
