Rosa Mexicano Opens in San Francisco

Popular upscale restaurant chain Rosa Mexicano has landed in the Bay Area with the opening of its first location in San Francisco near the Embarcadero.

Bringing his signature Mexican cuisine to San Francisco, culinary advisor Jonathan Waxman and executive chef David Suarez will be sourcing ingredients from local farms, including partnering with Green String Farm in Petaluma and Cowgirl Creamery.

The Rosa Mexicano franchise was established in 1984, introducing a new type of cuisine to the Manhattan restaurant scene. Since then, the upscale eatery has expanded to 15 locations, with San Francisco the latest spot.

The restaurant, which sits in the One Market building, will be able to seat more than 200 diners. There are indoor tables, an outdoor patio, private dining room and expansive bar area. Aiming to create a friendly neighborhood space, Shea Inc. Designer Cori Kuechenmeister said the design melds “the best of Rosa Mexicano’s signature elements with art and materials that give it a West Coast feel and San Francisco vibe.”

Items on the menu will change seasonally but have no fear, there is plenty for everyone. From different takes on guacamole, tacos, ceviche and a huge list of mains. Cocktails will include house margaritas, tequila and mezcal cocktails, a wide-ranging tequila list, beer, beer cocktails, sangria and wines by the glass. There will also be a “Young Amigos” menu for the kids.

Rosa Mexicano is open nightly for dinner (Sunday-Thursday from 5:30-10:00, Friday & Saturday from 5:30-11:00) with Happy Hour starting on Monday, October 29 (Monday-Friday from 4:00-7:00). Lunch service will also begin on Monday, October 29 (Monday-Friday from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.). Brunch will also be offered beginning on November 3 on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The restaurant is located at 30 Mission Street in San Francisco.
