Children’s Fairyland Hosts Adults With Art, Beer and Food at Magic Lantern

As if anyone needed yet another reason to head to the land of more affordable rent, delicious food and the possibility of having an actual house party go uninterrupted by police intervention—aka Oakland—enter Magic Lantern, a special one-night event showcasing Bay Area video and projection artists at Children’s Fairyland amusement park.

Children’s Fairyland opened its gates on September 2, 1950 as a collaborative effort to provide the people of Oakland with a safe, fun and affordable environment for young children. The venue gets a one-night makeover for adults at Magic Lantern with art, beer, food and music. Magic Lantern will feature site-specific projected works and installation pieces as well as interactive projects and the collaborative musical stylings of Taser Island, Bryan Von Reuter, and members of Clipd Beaks, White Cloud, and Mwahaha.

According to Von Reuter, the musical portion of the evening “will be a loop-based, half improv/half composed [presentation] and will feature 3-4 members at a time.”

There will be local food trucks supplied by Off The Grid and beer from Anchor Brewing Co., Speakeasy, and Drake’s Brewing. All ticket sales will help Fairyland continue to provide free field trips to local low-income students. Tickets are available by presale only. Get them here.

Magic Lantern is located at Children’s Fairyland, 699 Bellevue Avenue, Oakland this Friday, Oct 12 from 7 to 10 pm.
