Foreign Cinema Celebrates 13 Years in the Mission

As new restaurants continue to fill in empty spaces in the Mission District, a culinary stalwart remains as strong as ever, offering great food and drinks in a unique environment. That longevity will be celebrated on Thursday at Foreign Cinema.

Chef/Owners Gayle Pirie and John Clark will be celebrating 13 years on Mission Street with a special movie, menu and drinks to honor the occasion.

“This is our 13th mission so we’re going to have a little fun and screen Apollo 13 in our outdoor courtyard,” said Pirie. That theme of 13 will also include a special drink for the evening as bartenders Andrew Marks and Bryan Ranere will be offering guests a Friday the 13th – which includes Cherry Heering, Hangar One Chipotle, Bitterman’s Xocolatl Mole Bitters and lemon for $10.

Pirie and Clark will be offering a special three-course wine pairing menu for the evening in addition to the regular menu. The menu is below:

Sonoma lettuces, Penny Royal goat cheese, shaved fennel, huckleberry vinaigrette

Didier Champalou Vouvray Brut, ‘Méthode Traditionelle’ Loire Valley NV (5oz. pour)

Tea smoked five spice duck breast, grilled treviso, muscat grapes

Paul Janin et Fils Moulin-à-Vent, ‘Clos du Tremblay’ Beaujolais 2009 (5oz. pour)

Warm Mexican chocolate fondant cake

Rare Wine Co. New York Malmsey, Special Reserve Madeira (2oz. pour)

The tasting menu is $50 per person, not including tax and gratuity.

Foreign Cinema is located at 2534 Mission Street.
