Giveaway: Bay for the Bayou With Allen Toussaint

Back for “Part Deux” at Bimbo’s this Friday, Bay for the Bayou brings New Orleans music legend Allen Toussaint to the stage with the Bay Area’s own California Honeydrops and the Shots. We’re giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky winner.

With a solo catalog going back to 1958, Allen Toussaint helped shape the sound of NOLA R&B and funk in the 1960s and 70s, writing and producing releases by the Meters, Irma Thomas, Dr. John, Aaron Neville and other members of the Neville family. In recent years, he’s worked with Paul McCartney and Elvis Costello, with whom he recorded with in New Orleans for the first major studio session after Hurricane Katrina.

The Bay for the Bayou show on Friday is a benefit organized by For the Bayou, a nonprofit dedicated to restoring the coastal wetlands along the Louisiana Delta, which are shrinking by approximately 25 square miles a year, according to the organization.

Willie Brown will be in the house along with an auction featuring art and items donated for Bay for the Bayou.

Leave a comment with your favorite Funk/R&B song for a chance to win a pair of tickets.

“Ruler of My Heart,” written by Toussaint and originally performed by Irma Thomas.

  8. I like Southern nights. Esp. when he talks in the middle about his childhood. I saw him at Stern Grove and have been in love with him ever since.
