Decibel Festival Returns for Its 9th Year of Cutting-Edge Music

Decibel Festival in Seattle is once again gearing up to bring the West Coast the most riveting faces in contemporary music and digital media. The festival is in its ninth year and has a line up full of up-and-coming DJs, producers, and visual artists to perform all over Seattle’s downtown and Capitol Hill areas.

This year, the event is headlined by a handful of legends, including a duo from the early days of British rave, Orbital, vinyl maestro, DJ Shadow, and trance innovator, Shpongle. Singers Erykah Badu and Kimbra, who have been bubbling up in the last couple years, will satisfy the pop and indie-oriented side of the festival.

Decibel also curates audio/visual showcases known as the Optical series. There will be six in the series, including a live scoring of Jean Rollin’s “La Vampire Nue” by Demdike Stare, and sets from notable acts such as Ableton inventor, Robert Henke (aka Monolake), Bay Area-native, Bvdub, and acclaimed ambient techno producer, Biosphere.

Other artists on the bill include Matthew Dear, Bonobo, John Talabot, MartyParty, Jimmy Edgar, Octave One, Robag Wruhme, Balam Acab, Teengirl Fantasy, Andy Stott, Falty DL, Kuedo, Devonwho, Peter Van Hoesen, Matt Tolfrey, and many more.

What’s more, a couple local promoters will be present to throw their own afterhours. As You Like It pairs up with Resident Advisor at Re-bar with Dixon, Pezzner, and resident, Brian Bejarano. Icee Hot takes over Melrose Market Studios with appearances from xxxy, Terence Parker, and residents, Shawn Reynaldo, Rollie Fingers, and Ghosts on Tape.
