A bright yellow awning announced the opening of Hawaiian Sandwiches Shop this month, at 1330 Ocean Avenue. Their $3 sandwiches are a godsend for cash strapped students from nearby City College. This bargain prices are phenomenal, compared to most downtown sandwich shops who charge double or triple that amount.

Currently the menu lists 9 sandwiches for $3 to $3.50 each, and 3 salads for $3.50 to $4.25. So far, I would recommend the five spice chicken, roast pork, or the Hawaiian chicken sandwiches, served in toasted baguettes. Because those are hot sandwiches, most of the other choices (cold cuts) are cold sandwiches. Drinks are also budget conscious at $1 to $2 each.

The shop is open weekdays 9:30 am to 6:30 pm, Saturdays until 6 pm. Closed on Sundays.
