Antologia Vinoteca – A Unique New Wine Bar in North Beach

Wine bars have typically had plenty of success in San Francisco, offering oenophiles a glass or three in a cool and unique environment. But San Francisco’s latest wine bar, Antologia Vinoteca, offers wine enthusiasts and novices something completely different.

Started by three friends and San Francisco natives, Juan Rodriguez, Carlos Alejo and Ramsey Hanna, Antologia Vinoteca, which opens Friday, is the first wine bar in the city to offer guests a truly extensive list of wines from Latin America. Alejo said it is a truly untapped market.

“Many people don’t realize how many great wines come out of countries like Spain, Argentina and Chile. These areas have some really high quality wine at lower prices,” said Alejo. “Spain was always thought of as on the lowest rung of the ladder in terms of quality producers in Europe, but they have really stepped up to produce some great wines.”

Antologia Vinoteca offers wine by the glass, bottle and also flights from Chile, Argentina and Spain. There is also a very unique beer list. “We didn’t want to have just ordinary beers that we offered,” said Hanna. “So we have a lot of unique beers from Latin America that most people will not be familiar with.” A menu filled with Latin-influenced small plates will also be available.

Rodriguez, Alejo and Hanna are not your normal wine bar owners. They want Antologia Vinoteca to be a unique experience for both wine novices and those that are more experienced. “I have tried all the wines that we have here. Not only that, I have tried 4-5 others that are very similar to each of them,” said Alejo. “I want people to come in and ask questions and I want it to be educational for our guests. But I also don’t want it to be stuffy or too serious. We have been to other wine bars in town and we want this to be a fun, festive environment where everyone can enjoy themselves and discover new, amazing wines.”

Antologia Vinoteca is located at 515 Broadway Street and will be open seven days a week, Monday-Friday from 5:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 a.m. with Happy Hour from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
