Tour de Fat Raises $2 Million for Local Nonprofits

Tour de FatNew Belgium Brewing, the guys behind Fat Tire, have raised $2 million in their thirteenth year of the Tour de Fat bicycle festival. Tour de Fat is a 15-city nationwide tour which brings together thousands for a costumed bike parade. Participants join in for tastings of New Belgium beer, local food vendors, bike competitions (not racing, more like bike jousting), and live entertainment.

But the whole point of the Tour de Fat–fun aside–is to raise funds for local nonprofit organizations. Reaching the $2 million mark is a huge accomplishment for the New Belgium team and the organizations they benefit. Last year’s stop in San Francisco benefitted the SF Bicycle Coalition and the Bay Area Ridge Trails Council.

Mark your calendars for the 2012 San Francisco stop of the Tour de Fat, coming September 22 to Lindley Meadow in Golden Gate Park.
