Cocktails for a Cause

Some of the Bay Area’s best bars are coming together for a terrific cause.

On Tuesday, June 19, Wo Hing General Store, The New Easy (in Oakland), Smuggler’s Cove, Fifth Floor, Jasper’s Corner Tap & Kitchen, Heaven’s Dog and Hog & Rocks will each be offering special selections of original cocktails, with all the proceeds going to The Special Place Foundation.

SPF is a sustainable urban farm in the Bay Area providing opportunities to people with autism and other disabilities.

The night is part of a series of nationwide events started by Seattle-based writer Ted Munat. Munat’s son Sharky was diagnosed with Autism and he has planned a series of cocktail events under the moniker “Le Mixeur.” So in honor of his son, the fundraising events have been dubbed “Le Mixeur Sharky.” Since originating in March, events in Seattle, Portland, New York and Boston have raised over $10,000.

“My goal is to turn this into an annual thing in the Bay Area,” said Munat, “growing each year until it becomes a San Francisco tradition and part of the community fabric.”

Munat has set a goal for the Bay Area of $4300. So now, we have a reason to drink on a Tuesday night so get out there and pitch in!
