Brooklyn’s Here We Go Magic keep the path leading to their highly anticipated release A Different Ship (Secretly Canadian) paved with tempting teasers and quality morsels. Check out their latest addition – a video for “How Do I Know” by director Sean Pecknold (Fleet Foxes, Beach House, Grizzly Bear).
I was driving from Joshua Tree to Palm Springs on the highway, and my brother who was privy to the new Here We Go Magic record, said ‘You have to hear this song.’ So he put it on and we listened to it a couple times all 5 of us smiling with the wind in our hair. Then literally as we pulled into the parking lot in Palm Springs I got a message from the band about maybe doing a video for that very song.
The video features a man torn between his real life lover and a robot he has ordered and developed feelings for. Real talk! “How Do I Know” is one of the poppier songs on the album and this video definitely captures the lighter side of the band, and of the situation at hand. But alas, in the world of the human-human-robot love triangle only two can prevail and – not unlike the plight of the Tin Man – love can be a heartless business. Pecknold returned to the desert surrounding Palm Springs and captured “… a little story about a man torn between two choices in his life. When listening to the jam I kept seeing a human-like robot dancing on the side of the highway, so I incorporated that into a light-hearted, literal take on the question posed in the song.”
Check out the video below. Here We go Magic will be playing The Independent on June 12.
