San Francisco voters will decide in June on a preservation policy for the city’s famed landmark, Coit Tower.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Department of Elections has certified petition signatures qualifying a measure for “a nonbinding declaration of policy” to protect Coit Tower.

The Protect Coit Tower Committee collected more than 16,000 signatures to qualify the measure for the June 5 ballot. They said the tower and its 27 historic WPA murals are a priceless treasure and need protection.

The measure would limit commercial activities and private events at Coit Tower, while also funneling money from the landmark’s concession for maintenance and beautification of Pioneer Park.
