The Old Clam House, which dates all the way back to the Gold Rush and when President Abraham Lincoln presided over the country, celebrated its 150th anniversary this week.

The restaurant has been restored to its Victorian roots, a nine-month project undertaken last year by San Francisco restaurateurs Jerry and Jennifer Dal Bozzo. They wanted to revitalize the restaurant which is the oldest to operate in its original location in San Francisco.

The couple completed a vintage restoration of the original structure, including the bar, refreshing the dining room and fully renovating the glass-enclosed patio in the style of the opening period. “My husband and I both grew up with outings at The Old Clam House. We wanted to preserve the old nostalgia of San Francisco for future generations,” said Jennifer Dal Bozzo.

Originally known as The Oakdale Bar & Clam House, the restaurant continues to serve its famous hot shots of clam juice, a tradition since the restaurant was first established in 1861.

The Old Clam House serves lunch and dinner daily. It is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and is located at 299 Bayshore Boulevard.
