Literary Events: BookFest 2012, Hollywood Rides a Bike & More

This week’s best literary events include BookFest 2012, a glimpse into cycling with the stars and a bitter(sweet) bookstore crawl.

BookFest 2012 kicks off this Thursday and runs through Tuesday, January 28, at the Jewish Community Center. The week-long festival goes well beyond the book and will include an illustrated pop-opera, a performance art piece by Miranda July and a keynote by Nicole Krauss, featuring Joyce Carol Oates.

Author Steve Rea presents Hollywood Rides a Bike this Friday at Public Bikes. The book, inspired by Rea’s blog, Rides A Bike, is a collection of celebrity photos including everyone from Shirley Temple to Kevin Bacon, riding their bikes.

This Sunday, get your lit-crawl on with the SF Bookstore and Chocolate Crawl. Start at noon at Green Apple Books and spend the day exploring local, independent bookstores and eating chocolates. The on foot or on bike event is free, but participants are strongly encouraged to buy books along the way.
