Lake Tahoe Plans Bid to Host Winter Olympics

Nevada and California officials have agreed to work together to make a run at hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics at Lake Tahoe.

Nevada Lieutenant Governor Brian Krolicki said the Reno-Tahoe Winter Games Coalition has an agreement with California leaders to try to convince the U.S. Olympic Committee to back their bid and take it to the International Olympic Committee. It is still unclear if the USOC is even interested in making a 2022 Winter Olympics bid.

Squaw Valley hosted the 1960 Winter Games. The Unites States last hosted the Winter Olympics in 2002, as Salt Lake City played host.

Earlier this year, the USOC backed out of a plan to try to bring the 2020 Summer Olympics to the United States. Krolicki said a decision on the 2022 bid probably won’t come for a few years, giving them plenty of time to prepare the area.
