Rolling Stone’s List of the 100 Greatest Guitarists

To compile this list San Francisco’s historic music magazine polled the most prominent guitarists of past and present as well as RS writers. See where your favorites ended up.

Rolling Stone’s upcoming issue will feature a list of the 100 greatest guitarists to ever lay fingers on a fret board. The usual suspects round out the top ten, the only surprises may be the order. Jimmy Hendrix is the undisputed number one , and with his legend growing every year it is hard to disagree.

The list is based on ballots Rolling Stone sent to some of rock and roll’s best classic and modern guitarists including Carlos Santana, Trey Anastasio , Warren Haynes, Jim James, Joe Perry and many more. Also asked to participate were senior editors at Rolling Stone including David Fricke and Brian Hiatt.
