Officials Expecting Busy Thanksgiving Travel Season

Travel tracker AAA is forecasting a major boon in the number of people heading out of town over the Thanksgiving weekend this year.

The organization is expecting some 42.5 million people to drive, fly or ride trains to their holiday destination, the highest numbers since the start of the recession.

AAA is forecasting that about 90 percent will be driving despite high gas prices. Right now, the national average is $3.42 a gallon. But that pales in comparison to the rising cost of airfares, which are for the most part, up 20 percent from last year.

With bad weather in certain parts of the country, it is recommended to call your airlines if you are flying out of one of the Bay Area’s hubs.
