San Francisco Fleet Week, a celebration of the rich naval tradition in the Bay Area, will honor the men and women who are currently and have in the past served in the armed forces this week.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the ever-popular weeklong event in San Francisco.

It includes the Fleet Week Air Show, Parade of Ships and annual disaster preparedness training with the Navy, Marines and local first responders. So if you hear a loud roar overhead starting on Thursday, it is most likely just the Blue Angels practicing their maneuvers for the Air Show this weekend.

Along with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, Air Show performers will include the RCAF Snowbirds Jet Team, Navy EA-6B Prowlers an the Patriots Jet Team, among others.

A variety of family-oriented events will also be staged along the San Francisco waterfront. The Marina Green will have an entertainment area featuring exhibits, interactive displays and premium box seating. Aquatic Park will also offering viewing as will Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39. There will also be several tours along the piers and band performances throughout the week at different venues.

Because of the huge crowds each year, public transit is highly recommended.
