While electronic music scenes in the West Coast were late to bloom in comparison to their Midwest and European counterparts, areas such as LA and SF have seen a resurgence of interest and passion in reviving this part of our culture. Lately the momentum has been picking up further north, where producers and DJs have been refining their skills seemingly under the radar up until the last several years. Since its start in 2003, Sean Horton’s Decibel Festival has grabbed the spotlight as the biggest fall festival for electronic music, bringing in up and coming talent from all over the world. With artists from Brooklyn, LA, Chicago, Berlin, Canada, and the UK, it’s no surprise that the variety doesn’t end there. The folks over at Decibel created a bill featuring a great mix of artists whose styles range from all flavors of bass, experimental beat, funky, classic 4/4 house and techno, grimy witch house, etc. A number of venues around Seattle’s downtown and Capitol Hill districts will host the showcases, with daytime events including panels, workshops, lectures on topics relating to music production and performance, digital media, and visual art.
This year, Moby and Amon Tobin headline Decibel, with a DJ set and a live A/V set respectively. Other notable artists include Araabmuzik, Atom™, Bonobo, Egyptrixx, Kingdom, Ill-Esha, Matthewdavid, oOoOO, Martin Buttrich, Shigeto, and many more. In fact, the line up is so huge it’ll better for you to check it out for yourself here. Those who want a sample of the music can also check out Berlin-based, edgy techno DJ/producer Tim Xavier’s Decibel preview mix here.
For those who want a taste of the festivities and are unable to attend will be happy to see that there are plenty of artists passing through toward the end of this month, so keep your eyes peeled for upcoming events including the appearances of Atom™, Zomby, Bok Bok, Martyn, dOP, and more.
Decibel Festival takes place Wednesday September 28th through October 2nd in Seattle, WA. Festival passes are available, as well as individual showcase tickets, here.
