Go Fly a Kite

Professional and amateur kite fliers and thousands of others looking to just enjoy the outdoors are expected this weekend for the annual Family Day Kite Festival on the Marina Green in San Francisco.

The event started back in 1978 and has grown ever since. This year, some highlights include free kite-making for kids, kite-flying for all ages, contests for both kite-making and flying and wind power exhibits.

Among the contest categories for the kites are funniest, biggest, smallest and the spectator’s choice for “Best of Show.”

There will also be several performers on tap doing amazing tricks and stunts with kites, kite buggies, kite boards and kite boats.

The event is from 11-6 on both Saturday and Sunday.  The event is for children of all ages and there is free admission.  Parking is also available on site and nearby at Crissy Field.
