Orchids in the Park returns, the Samuel Murphy Windmill gets a much-needed restoration, a new gallery opens this week at the Table Asia Gallery and mayoral candidates get set to debate in the Richmond District.

Those are just some of the headlines from the Richmond SF blog.

Pretty flowers on display in Golden Gate Park…This weekend, the San Francisco Orchid Society will be hosting “Orchids in the Park” at the County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park. Orchids will be on sale and it gives visitors a chance to see some rare orchid species. The event runs on Saturday and Sunday from 10-5 each day.

The Samuel Murphy Windmill gets a cap…Another step in the restoration of the Samuel Murphy Windmill was completed this week as the 60+ ton copper dome was put back in place during a “capping” ceremony. It took 10 yeas to restore the cap in the Netherlands. The full restoration of the 106-year-old windmill is scheduled for completion in mid-2012.

Photography gallery show hits the Richmond…Starting on Friday, Table Asia Gallery will be hosting a small gallery show, “Night and Low Light Photographs,” featuring the work of Ira Glick. Glick is a Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at The Stanford University School of Medicine. His photographs have been shown at numerous venues. The display runs through September 24.

Mayoral debate set for next week… All the major candidates running for mayor will participate in a debate at the Richmond Recreation Center next Monday. The event is hosted by the Planning Association for the Richmond. Along with moderated questions, the candidates are expected to also take questions from the audience.
