SF Street Food Fest MVP: Il Cane Rosso

As you already know, the SF Street Food Festival last weekend kicked some serious ass. But if you missed it, fret not: some of the best flavors are available all-year round in our fantastic culinary mecca.

My personal favorite–Il Cane Rosso–is open seven days a week in the Ferry Building, serving up some of the innovative, old-world cuisine that made them such a hit this past Saturday. At the festival, chef and proprietor Lauren Kiino was on location whipping up some spareribs and garlic bruschetta. The 8$ bite was clearly the biggest bang for your buck that day and you could have easily been full after just that one dish. Fennel, sage, garlic and onions were added to a slathering of porchetta fat and applied to huge racks of meat, grilled right in front of your face. The dish was so hearty, and accompanied sensationally by the crisp, toasted garlic bread that soaked up the delectable meatjuices that were flowing abundantly from the oversized ribs. That one meal made me regret that I haven’t spent enough time at Il Cane Rosso. I intend to change that shortly. Hopefully those ribs and garlic bread will make it onto their frequently-changing menu soon enough.

Check out their menu online to see what they’re serving up this week at the ever-gratifying Ferry Building.
