Fresh and Easy Opens in Bayview-Hunters Point

For the first time in more than 20 years, the Bayview-Hunters Point District has a new neighborhood grocery to get groceries and food.

San Francisco’s second Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market is now open on 3rd Street and Carroll Avenue, the first grocery store to open in the “food desert” in more than two decades.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services describes a food desert as an area with limited access to affordable, nutritious food.

In the building process, the market promised to order from within the community and the San Francisco Chronicle reports that half of its 40 employees are from the surrounding 94124 ZIP code.

Fresh produce and a kitchen where items such as pizza and sushi are made are also part of the store.
