Cup Opens in Glen Park

Cup

Unless you are a San Francisco native or have a work shuttle that drops you off at the BART station, chances are you haven’t ventured out to the Glen Park neighborhood lately. Or ever. But now you have a reason: a new coffee shop simply called Cup has opened, serving coffee and desserts from local vendors.

Cup opened in July and is a quiet shop located just off Highway 280, near the Glen Park BART station. The clean minimalist decor is quite the contrast to the giant cup that calls attention to the location. The artwork comes from the same designer as the infamous legs above Piedmont Boutique on Haight Street.

Cup works with many local, and often organic, vendors for their coffee, tea and baked goods.

Their coffee is from Oakland’s Mr. Espresso, which specializes in oak wood roasted coffees. If you haven’t heard of the brand, which started in 1978, it’s definitely worth a taste test. At $2 for a medium, it’s quite comparable to other Bay Area coffee favorites. The tea at Cup is from Five Mountains, an organic company based in Potrero Hill. You’ll find a full assortment of black, white, red and green teas available.

To accompany your beverages, you’ll probably want to indulge in a little dessert. Cup offers selections from Sandbox Bakery and Anthony’s Cookies, so you can enjoy croissants, muffins, cookies and scones while you sip on your jasmine tea or double latte.

While the location may be remote for those not usually in Glen Park, anyone who dares venture out there should be quiet pleased with the visit.
