Whole-Roasted Hog: Thursdays at The Pub

Thursday nights just got a whole lot more delicious now that The Pub (851 Beach Street) is offering slow smoked pork from a succulent, whole-roasted pig on a weekly basis.

Located along the northern edge of Ghirardelli Square, The Pub isn’t just for tourists. Featuring a diverse selection of southern BBQ and good deals on beer and cocktails, this ornate Fisherman’s Wharf locale serves up country cooking until 1:30 every morning–a rarity in a city wanting for quality late-night dining.

Although Wednesday night trivia is always a fun time to stop by and win some prizes with friends, it’s the Thursday night pig-roast that keeps me coming back for me. For $23 you get an over-stuffed plate of fresh and juicy pork prepared in several varieties: pig belly, pork shoulder, pulled pork, loin and pork crackling–a deep fried and crispy sort of gourmet pork rind. Since that’s probably not enough pig for one plate, it comes garnished with bacon-laced corn and a healthy smattering of jalapeno cole slaw. Top that all off with a warm piece of freshly-baked corn bread and call it a night…Or stick around and try a few speciality cocktails from a well-versed bar staff that is talented enough to please the discerning tastes of the local servers that consistently frequent this service-industry stalwart.
