On Friday night, the underrated and ridiculous hip-hop group Das Racist came to the Mezzanine to unleash their wild ways on the city.

After a spirited opening by a Punjabi band, The Black Mahal, the members of Das Racist opened their portion of the show with a video highlighting the group’s beef with the many ways race is portrayed in the media.

The group came on to the stage to great applause and quickly went into its set. During the first few songs, the lyrics were drowned out by heavy hitting production, but the problem was resolved within a few songs. The only problem with the group as the night went on seemed to be their focus. 40 minutes into their set they seemed to lose interest in the show, and after another lack luster 10 minutes the set was done.

After an overall average show, I was surprised by how many songs the group left off their set list. A wild Diplo produced “You can Sell Anything,” their claim to fame “Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell” and other bangers like “All Tan Everything” and “hahahaha jk” were surprisingly missing. I heard the group is going through some rough times, but unfortunately, the San Francisco fans suffered.
