The BBC reported today that Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London apartment. She was 27 years old.
There aren’t many details yet, but it looks like the singer’s long-time struggles with drugs and alcohol finally caught up with her. She had one of the best voices to emerge in pop music in recent history. Her breakout hit Back to Black (2006), produced by Mark Ronson and featuring the Dap-Kings, won her several Grammys.
She only made it to San Francisco for once public performance at Popscene. A concert at the Warfield was to follow in 2007 but it was canceled due to visa issues. Read the BBC’s short report HERE.
