Baseball and barbecue- the perfect combination! And it’s all going down at O.co Coliseum (I still call it the Coliseum) on Saturday for the first annual Bay Area BBQ Championship.
32 teams will be squaring off in four different categories: chicken, brisket, pork and ribs. Both celebrity judges and barbecue-certified judges will determine the overall champion.
There will also be a “People’s Choice Award,” which will go to the winner of the popular vote.
The 32 teams will be firing up the grill all day and night (there is a day-night doubleheader for the A’s vs. the Angels), but three teams will also be competing in their own “Throw Down.” The Bad Boyz of BBQ, The Q Masters and Ric Gilbert, backed up by Bad S BBQ will have three hours to prepare a whole chicken, one side dish and one dessert on stage.
The event will benefit hundreds of Northern California foster children and is hosted by Alternative Family Services.
