Many of you have already heard about the controversial incident in which SF-local Deshon Marman got kicked off a US Airways flight at SFO for wearing saggy pants. The plane’s captain made a “citizen’s arrest” and Marman was charged with trespassing, battery and resisting arrest. What the…?

Was this incident racially tinged? Or was the fashion police on high alert that day? I had no idea there was even a particular dress code on flights (the airline has since stated that they do not have one “beyond appropriate [clothing], that doesn’t offend passengers.”

And how was he trespassing when he went through security, was checked through the gate and had a paid airline ticket? This whole scenario doesn’t make an sense to me.

Marman grew up in the Bayview-Hunter’s Point neighborhood, was a graduate of Lincoln High School, and was currently a defensive player for the University of New Mexico. He had returned to the city for the funeral of his friend, David Henderson, who had recently been fatally shot. He was heading back to school when this happened.
