Video: Los Rakas

Blending their latin roots with Bay Area hyphy, duo Los Rakas produce a unique sound that creatively bends genres. They perform live at 330 Ritch on Cinco de Mayo, a prime destination for hip hop fans looking to celebrate the holiday.

Growing up in Panama, cousins Rico and Dun were raised with strong dancehall and reggaeton influences that met a new sound when they moved to Oakland in their early teens. It was only natural for the now 20-somethings to begin blending familiar Spanish lyrics with beats from their current surroundings and soon a niche genre was born. Touring with acts from hip hop groups to, recently, reggae crooner Collie Buddz, they have developed a diverse following through energetic performances sure to grab the attention of any true music lover. Los Rakas has released two mixtapes as well as several singles but plan to release an EP featuring more of their own production later this spring.

The video for their song “Kalle” off the mixtape Panabay Twist 2: La Tanda Del Bus was released in February, filmed during a recent week-long trip to New York in which they also performed six different shows.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo tomorrow, May 5, at 330 Ritch with Los Rakas,DJ Pee Wee, and DJ Aspect.
