Alice Waters Tweets Big Announcement

To the surprise of many, Bay Area culinary legend Alice Waters showed up on Twitter last week, with speculation that she was set to make a big announcement on Monday.

And according to her own tweet, she is collaborating with Twitter to support Edible Schoolyard, a program of the Chez Panisse Foundation , which started as “a one-acre garden and kitchen classroom for urban public school students at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Berkeley.”

Students participate in all aspects of growing, harvesting and preparing nutritious, seasonal produce.

The program was established in 1994-95. They launched their first affiliate program in New Orleans in 2005 and have since expanded to include programs in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles and Greensboro.

According to the San Francisco Business Times, Waters visited the microblogging headquarters in San Francisco on Monday to “launch a campaign for the program.”

Full details have been released, but you can expect to see Waters on Twitter a lot more in the coming months.
