Underrated & Raw: Ski Beatz

Perhaps one of the most underrated, and unknown, producers in hip hop, Ski Beatz has managed stay relevant in the business for 15+ years without sacrificing the art.

Since breaking on the scene in the early 90s with the hip hop group, Original Flavor, Ski has landed production for artists including Fat Joe, Camp Lo, Mos Def, Jay Electronica, Curren$y, and maybe most notably, Jay Z.  Ski produced four out of the fifteen cuts on Jay-Z’s classic debut, Reasonable Doubt, including the singles, “Dead Presidents II” and “Feelin’ it”.

Last September, Ski released his debut album, 24-Hour Karate School, which features an array of veteran and new MCs, including Stalley, Mos Def, Jim Jones, Jean Grae, Curren$y, The Cool Kids, and a slew of others.

Check his production below with “Cream of the Planet,” featuring Mos Def, “Dead Presidents II” by Jay-Z, and “Luchini (AKA This is it)” by Camp Lo.
